Hello, NAIWE community and clients!
I’m Aime Sund, an independent editor. My business, Red Leaf Word Services, offers all levels of editing, manuscript critiques, and proofreading for fiction authors, and for nonfiction writers in plant-related topics. If you write garden fiction, fantasy, or many of its subgenres including steampunk, paranormal, historical fiction and mystery, YA, and even some contemporary fiction, I’d love to work with you!
In essence, I’m a green-fingered plant geek editor who applies 25+ years as a horticulturist, and a lifetime on the farm to plant-themed fiction and nonfiction. The same detail-oriented approach also helps authors of large casts and complex fantasy worlds publish with confidence.
Fiction editing grew out of my love of reading and the magic of the experiences reading creates. I have been a devotee of epic fantasy since I was twelve or so and have expanded into historical fiction and steampunk in the past decade. I write fantasy as Eleanorah Starr with my blog series The Collection of Huphaea at The Sun, a Book, and a Dog. These ongoing episodes form the foundation for the alternate world of Ereth, where the novels that beg to be let out of my head take place.
The plant-focused writers I work with appreciate that at the core, I am a true plant nerd. There are no facts about plants not worth knowing. I have over 25 years of experience as a horticulturist to draw on, and I continue to get my hands dirty on a weekly basis during the New England growing season.
My family has a small working farm where I grew up and where I still reside. Plants and growing have been in my blood since day one. That has expanded to include cows, sheep, chickens, and turkeys along with my dogs. Plenty to be busy with!
I’ve honed my skills with courses from The Editorial Freelancers Association, Jennifer Lawler at Club Ed, and Louise Harnby. These programs are taught by well-respected editing professionals in a hands-on manner. Their feedback is invaluable, it has been a pleasure to learn from those with so much experience.
Editing, much like gardening, is about growth. Growth of the idea, the manuscript, the writing, and the author. My clients want to improve their craft as much as they want my ‘story gardening’ to unearth improvements for their work. I work with clients toward a common goal—publishing the best possible version of their words, ideas, drafts, and manuscripts.
I am on social media platforms as Red Leaf Word Services. I’d love to connect with other members and possible clients there! You can also find out more about me at www.redleafwords.com.
